Leslie Roberts

Following training on HMS Ganges, Able Seaman Leslie Roberts served on HMS St Albans (I15), HMS Suffolk (55), HMS Brocklesby (L42) and HMS Bentinck (K314). He served in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Russian Arctic convoys and, in 2018, was awarded the Arctic Star Medal to complement his other medals (War Medal 1939-1945, Atlantic Star, Italy Star, 1939-1945 Star and Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal). Leslie was also an accomplished amateur footballer who achieved county honours, representing Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA.

We have been privileged to work with the Russian Arctic Convoys Museum Project and to support it every endeavour since it was launched. It is important both for Russia and the United Kingdom to preserve memories of this most heroic page of our War time Alliance as a tribute to the Veterans and for the sake of future generations.
