William Peile served on Europa, Tilbury Hope, Silver Foam, Turnstone, Pembroke, Bacchante and Caroline (Northern Dawn) during 1939-1945.
William’s grandson, Seamus Lavan (age 17) is pictured before the Cenotaph parade on Remembrance Sunday 2013. Williams’s two granddaughters and daughter (Anne) also both attended.
“It was an exceptional and moving experience. We were not able to meet any Arctic veterans but Seamus did talk to a lady in his section of the march who was also there with an Arctic medal in memory of a relative”.
