Arthur Henry Sanders was an able seaman on board the HMS Beagle.

He took part in the Russian Arctic Convoys and has two medals for the part he played. Sadly he died in 2011.

He told us many stories of his time on the Beagle. One story he often mentioned was the pain of the cold when chipping the ice off the ship – they could only do 20 minutes outside and had to take it in turns to go out to do the work.

We are so very proud of him and the part he played to protect the UK.
