Commander JR Pardoe OBE RN served on the Russian Convoys in 1942 on the battleship HMS Duke of York then on the destroyer HMS Eclipse, part of the close escorts to JW53/RA53 in 1943.

James has written his memoirs which, as he says, shows a glimpse of life through the eyes of a 17 year old Royal Navy midshipman. He also kept a RN journal while aboard HMS Shropshire & HMS Duke of York. Journals were not allowd on destroyers as they contained classified information which might fall into enemy hands.

We have been privileged to work with the Russian Arctic Convoys Museum Project and to support it every endeavour since it was launched. It is important both for Russia and the United Kingdom to preserve memories of this most heroic page of our War time Alliance as a tribute to the Veterans and for the sake of future generations.
