I took part in two Murmansk Convoys in 1942-1943 as a FAA pilot in 824 squadron.

I received the Arctic Star, two Medals from the Russian Federation and the Atlantic Star.

My commanding officer commended me for courage and determination subsequent to the sinking of a U Boat in the region of Bear Island/Bjornaja/ 26° North of the Arctic Circle.

Later I joined the British Pacific Fleet aboard HMS Ruler bound for the surrender in Tokyo Bay.

Finally I was selected for training at RAF North Luffenham in preparation for the Korean war and flew the Vampire, the Spitfire MK 22 and the Meteor.

We have been privileged to work with the Russian Arctic Convoys Museum Project and to support it every endeavour since it was launched. It is important both for Russia and the United Kingdom to preserve memories of this most heroic page of our War time Alliance as a tribute to the Veterans and for the sake of future generations.
